ABOUT US

MUSIC - POETRY - ARTISTIC RESIDENCY - MEDITERRANEAN ....

1st crossing

MARSEILLE - ISTANBUL

Founded in 2009 in Marseille, the Sublimes Portes association has carried out, from the territory of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region, several significant actions around the meeting between cultures and the crossing of contemporary artistic forms in the Mediterranean. She thus created the Sublimes Portes project, an artist residency program in the field of music and visual arts. Sublimes Portes initiated the encounter between a 21st century Provencal troubadour, Sam Karpienia, and an Anatolian troubadour, Ulaş Özdemir. Thanks to this meeting, the two musicians defined a common artistic trajectory and in 2011 created the group Forabandit, which versifies love and exile, and makes the ports of Istanbul and Marseille rhyme. This Mediterranean adventure resulted in two albums and numerous concerts, between Turkey and Europe. Irrigated by a poetic and committed word, and a permanent musical dialogue, Forabandit has successfully invented a new way of "saying the Mediterranean", in Occitan and Turkish.

2nd crossing

ISTANBUL -MARSEILLE

Always with the desire to link artists and cities of the Mediterranean, Sublimes Portes initiated in 2010 another unprecedented meeting between the Marseille visual artist Patrick Laffont De Lojo and the musician and composer from Istanbul Erdem Helvacioglu, at the GMEM (National Center for Musical Creation ) from Marseille and Istanbul. The two artists worked in several stages around a sound and visual creation on these two cities. Their project also corresponded to this new word on the Mediterranean which is emerging today.

3rd crossing

BETWEEN POETICS & POLITICS

WOMEN'S CREATION

Cries of revolt, everyday poetry or writings of resistance, the voices of bloggers from the Mediterranean, Les Nouvelles Antigones is another project devoted to the words of women, and particularly to those of bloggers and poets from both shores. Les Nouvelles Antigones is an original project, centered on this feminine “power to speak” that is emerging in the Mediterranean in the 21st century. It was initiated in 2015 in Marseille and includes a musical creation component, "La Nuit d'Antigone" and a contemporary writing component with the most influential women writers, bloggers and cyber-activists from several Mediterranean countries, like Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Syria, Palestine, Turkey or Spain.… In connection with the concert, we organized round tables and public meetings where we invited the bloggers and poets to share their experiences. This project with a national (Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Paris, Toulon) and international scope could be organized with various partners such as French Institutes, universities and other cultural actors.

Sublimes Portes is always in the desire to share and meet the public. Transmission, meeting with the public is an important step. For this, from the start of our project, workshops were set up. Thus in connection with artistic projects, writing workshops, blogging workshops or even DJing workshops have been organized. By crossing the political and the poetic, Sublimes Portes gives a unique place to the artists involved in the city.
